AIP Publishing is seeking an Editor-in-Chief for APL Materials, a leading global open access journal at the forefront of materials science.

The new Editor-in-Chief of APL Materials will guide a leading venue for groundbreaking research that charts the course for materials science disciplines. The role provides an unparalleled opportunity for a driven editor to build scientific collaborations within relevant communities and hone vital leadership skills — all while building on the journal’s preeminent reputation and success to further serve and support the materials science community.

Excellent candidates will: 

• be dynamic, engaged leaders with strong ties within their scientific and research communities
• have expertise in the fields of materials science, nanomaterials, or functional materials
• demonstrate that they can further grow a journal of prestige and influence
• bring to the role an innovative, visionary approach, a passion for excellence, and strong interpersonal skills
• create a robust strategic journal plan with global perspective
• be able to work collaboratively with a committed editorial team and the Publisher to execute on that strategy

The initial appointment is for five years with the possibility of renewal after review.  The successful candidate will be paid an honorarium commensurate with the roles and responsibilities of the position. There are no geographic limitations to the Editor’s location.

The statement should include one paragraph on leadership experience, community involvement, and scientific accomplishments that make the applicant uniquely qualified for the Editor-in-Chief position.
