The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) jointly with the Physics and Astronomy Department at Rutgers--The State University of New Jersey invites applicants with research interests in advanced analytical electron microscopy. Preference will be given to candidates at the Assistant Professor level, however outstanding candidates at higher ranks will also be considered.
The MSE Department houses a state-of-the-art NION UltraSTEM facility along with other electron and ion microscopes located across the Busch Campus in Piscataway, NJ. Electron microscopy is a key component of world leading characterization equipment housed in Schools of Engineering and Arts and Sciences.
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in materials science and engineering, applied physics, physics or a closely related discipline. We are searching for energetic and visionary individuals in the broad area of characterization of materials and phenomena using advanced analytical microscopy, development of new microscopy techniques for materials characterization, and in-situ characterization of novel processes using electron microscopy. We are open to applications from individuals working on a broad range of materials related problems. We particularly invite scientists interested in transformative research in advanced materials characterization and phenomena. The ideal candidate is expected to have a tremendous potential for obtaining external research support, as well as excellent investigative, communication, and leadership skills. The candidate is expected to develop outstanding research and teaching programs on both the graduate and undergraduate levels. This includes the development of both undergraduate and graduate courses, the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students, and academic advising of students at all levels.
