The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering (ECE) at Boston University (BU) is searching for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the area of optics and photonics with impact in disciplines such as metasurface flat optics, quantum photonics, optoelectronic and fiber-based devices, and integrated micro- and nanophotonics. BU has a strong and growing footprint in these areas. Candidates with research programs that transcend the traditional boundaries of ECE are welcome to explore affiliated appointments in appropriate units, such as Biomedical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering.
BU ECE is a rising department that attracts exceptional graduate-student and faculty talent at all levels. Research activity by primary faculty is approximately $30M per year. The College of Engineering is currently ranked 31st in the nation by US News and World Report, and 13th among private universities. BU ECE faculty lead and participate in several high-profile, multidisciplinary research centers, including the Photonics Center, the Rajen Kilachand Center for Integrated Life Science and Engineering, the Neurophotonics Center, and the Center for Computing and Data Science.
We are looking for outstanding candidates with a Ph.D. in a relevant area who demonstrate potential for leading an independent and vibrant funded research program, teach effectively at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and utilize their expertise to strengthen collaborative research within the department and beyond.

BU conducts a background check on all final candidates for certain faculty and staff positions. The background check includes contacting the final candidate’s current and previous employer(s) to ask whether, in the last seven years, there has been a substantiated finding of misconduct violating that employer’s applicable sexual misconduct policies. To implement this process, the University requires a final candidate to complete and sign the form entitled “Authorization to Release Information” after execution of an offer letter.
