Position description
THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS, within the School of Physical Sciences at the University of California, San Diego (www.physics.ucsd.edu), invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Computational Condensed Matter Theory. Candidates must have a strong record of research accomplishment in application and/or development of first-principles computational methods such as density functional theory for the study of quantum materials, an innovative research plan, and a demonstrated ability or potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring. All positions are subject to availability of funding.
Teaching in physics will be expected at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Ph.D. or equivalent in Physics or closely related field.Additional qualifications (required at time of start) Demonstrated excellence in computational condensed matter physics research using first-principles methods.
Strong interest in advancing the understanding and design of quantum materials with novel / improved functionalities, and/or in developing computational methodologies to study quantum materials.
Preferred qualifications Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education. A well-articulated plan of contributing to programs that increase the access and success of underrepresented students and faculty in the sciences. Application Requirements
