The Department of Physics at the University at Buffalo (UB), The State University of New York is seeking to fill a tenure-track faculty position in theoretical physics at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. The successful candidate is expected to build an active research program in the general interdisciplinary area between quantum physics and information science, such as (but not limited to) data science/artificial intelligence-guided quantum materials design and exploration, machine learning assisted study of quantum information science, quantum informed machine learning, and neuromorphic computing in quantum systems
The Department of Physics is entering a period of significant growth: four tenure-track faculty members (an experimentalist working in MBE growth of quantum materials, an experimentalist working on neutron scattering and quantum optics, an experimentalist working on novel semiconductors, and a theorist working in quantum information science and many-body physics) started from 2022 to Spring of 2024. This current position is part of a multi-year, multi-faculty recruitment effort in quantum science and technology supported by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of the Provost and the State of New York.
