The major components of this portfolio include: ongoing state-of-the-art direct detection experiments aimed at GeV-scale particle dark matter; directed R&D leading to small- to mid-scale projects searching for dark matter in the laboratory at other energy scales, with novel and cutting-edge techniques; and synergistic fundamental research activities at DOE national labs and universities, such as dark matter phenomenology and simulations applied to specific new search strategies, pre-project R&D programs to advance key technologies such as large noble element detectors, quantum sensors and superconducting cavities, and enabling efficient data-taking and advanced analysis with current experiments.
