The Department of Physics at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor position in astronomy within any of the following directions:
1. Astronomical Instrumentation 2. Astrophysics of the Interstellar Medium 3. Integral Field Spectroscopy Survey Development and Data Mining
The Department has a diverse research portfolio including several faculty members working in the field of astrophysics. In particular, we are actively developing the AMASE instrument and survey (Yan et al. 2020), which will provide high spectral resolution integral field spectroscopy for the study of the ISM in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies. Successful candidates should be able to contribute to the development of the instrument or the survey, and/or take advantage of the data produced.
The appointee should demonstrate a strong record of research accomplishments and potential for establishing significant externally funded research programmes, and will be expected to undertake light teaching duties at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Competitive salary will be provided that is commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience. Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for up to three years, renewable subject to performance and mutual agreement. The expected start date of the position is before March 8, 2024.
