The Physicists Coalition, based at the non-partisan, nonprofit Arms Control Association in Washington, D.C., is seeking applications for a full-time coordinator for the programmatic, policy, and outreach activities of the Coalition.
The Physicists Coalition for Nuclear Threat Reduction was established in 2020 with support from the American Physical Society and is dedicated to informing and mobilizing physical scientists in the United States about opportunities for reducing the threats created by the existence of nuclear weapons.
This growing network currently involves over 800 physicist-advocates. It supports expert colloquia on nuclear arms control and disarmament issues at physics institutions across the country to deliver information and to foster action at the local and national levels. It also presents webinars on nuclear arms control for its members and others and supports engagement with Congress and the executive branch on nuclear weapons and arms control issues.
The Policy and Communications Coordinator will work under the direction of the Physicists Coalition steering committee and senior Arms Control Association staff to execute and contribute to the development of the policy and communication goals of the Coalition.
KEY TASKS: The policy and communications coordinator will be responsible for:
- enhancing the profile and impact of the Coalition by expanding its membership;
- coordinating and facilitating Coalition colloquia and webinars; and
- serving as the Coalition’s representative and liaison within the arms control and physical science communities on policy and advocacy on nuclear arms control and disarmament.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES include:
- scheduling colloquia and webinars;
- coordinating the Coalition Next-Generation Fellowship Program;
- drafting and sending monthly updates to Coalition members;
- managing the Coalition database and website;
- planning and executing grassroots advocacy campaigns;
- establishing relationships and coordinating joint activities with other NGOs active in the arms control field;
- assisting with the development and pursuit of the Coalition’s arms control policy, advocacy, and membership goals, under guidance from the Coalition Steering Committee and ACA’s executive director;
- recruiting Coalition members and Next-Generation Fellows, and coordinating outreach to the physical science community, the arms control community, the media, and the public;
- arranging Coalition meetings; and
- coordinating communications with policymakers and tracking relevant policy and legislation.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Candidates should have:
- strong written and oral communication skills;
- familiarity with social media and website content management;
- the ability to execute multiple assignments under tight deadlines;
- excellent organizational skills;
- strong research skills; and
- at least two years of experience in the nonproliferation, arms control, or national security field, or a related policy field.
An advanced degree in a related field is not required but is a plus. Candidates must support the goals and the mission of the Physicists Coalition for Nuclear Threat Reduction and the Arms Control Association.

The Coalition coordinator will be based at the ACA office in Washington, D.C.
BASE SALARY and BENEFITS : $65,000, adjustable commensurate with experience; employer-provided health coverage; a 5% contribution to an individual retirement account (after one year of employment); paid vacation and sick leave.
EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: This position is fully funded through the end of 2023, with the expectation of continuation, contingent on the availability of additional funding.
