Responsible for the supervision and management of the Physics educational operations, including instruction, teaching laboratories, lecture demonstrations, and department special events. Supervises 4.0 FTE and various student assistants. Coordinate and supervise equipment/instrument change-outs for laboratory exercises. In consultation with faculty, build equipment for new laboratory experiments and demonstrations. Assemble, test, and debug equipment prototypes. Research existing methods of performing similar experiments. Serves as Facilities Manager for department and lead contact for renovation and minor construction projects. Manage computer hardware and software needs, networking systems and provide general computing assistance for staff/technical units. The budgeted hiring range for this position is $64,400 to $93,200, depending on the selected candidate's education and experience.
- Oversee facilities management for department. Coordinate maintenance requests, renovations and minor improvement projects with Facilities and Planning, Design, and Construction. Develop layouts for existing lab space and/or renovation/expansion plans for future teaching laboratories. Represent the dept at meetings related to facilities, equipment and space design considerations. Disseminate relevant information. Monitor and maintain Facilities Management System (FMS).
- Manage Instructional Support; provide direction of daily operations. Coordinate and supervise equipment/instrument systems change-outs for experiments and lecture demos as directed by course instructors and Academic Coordinator; meet with lab staff and faculty to determine if changes are required to planned experiments. Manage inventory storage and care of teaching lab and demo equipment. Ensure there is equipment available for planned experiments and that there is no usage conflicts between lab courses.
- Conduct/oversee experiments to test and analyze existing designs and equipment to obtain data on performance of equipment. Collect experimental data and analyze test results using engineering principles and mathematical techniques. Assemble and evaluate information and prepare technical reports with respect to feasibility, engineering design criteria, and performance of experimental equipment and/or instrument systems. Alter or modify designs to obtain specified functional and operational performance.
