We have an opening for a Materials Scientist to join the Ion Implantation team at the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (https://cams.llnl.gov). You will play a leading role at the intersection of high-energy ion irradiation and materials science in support of LLNL's challenging national security missions. This position is in the Atmospheric, Earth, and Energy Division and involves close collaboration with researchers in the Materials Science Division of the Physical and Life Science Directorate.

In this role you will:

• Utilize high-voltage particle accelerators to conduct complex, ion-implantation experiments to emulate radiation damage effects in key materials related to nuclear weapons, fusion energy, and radiation detectors.
• Conduct advanced research into the underlying mechanisms manifesting defect formation in novel materials (e.g., additively manufactured materials, chemically-complex metals and ceramics, etc.).
• Design and implement novel methods, such as simultaneous multi-beam irradiation, for performing ion implantation coupled with in-situ characterization techniques.
• Pursue independent (but complementary) research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally.
• Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals.
• Document research, publish papers in peer-reviewed journals, and present results within the DOE community and at conferences.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
