Role and Responsibilities

 

  • Collaborate with fellow physicists, engineers, and technicians to build and operate a neutral atom based quantum computer
  • Design and implement experiments to investigate the dependence of gate fidelities on quantum gate protocols and Rydberg excitations
  • Participate in and/or lead research and development projects for laser systems, laser frequency stabilization, and future quantum processing units
  • Create, test, and validate mathematical models of atomic physics behavior and use results to inform system design
  • Contribute to and maintain technical documentation
  • Teach and supervise junior team members

Requirements

  • PhD in atomic physics, optical physics, or related field
  • Verbal and written communication skills, including presentation of technical and scientific results
  • Experience with cold or ultracold atoms, ions, and/or molecules
  • Experience integrating complex hardware and software into systems
  • Experience with laser systems, including diode lasers and optical cavities
  • Experience with Python programming and Linux operating system
  • Ability to work successfully in a dynamic team environment

 

Desired Skills and Knowledge

  • Familiarity with Artiq control framework and/or Sinara control hardware
  • Ability to communicate software requirements for proper software engineering
  • Experience with electro-optic elements and optical waveguides
  • Proficiency with Mathematica
