Assistant or Associate Professor in Theoretical/Computational Biophysics Position # 30389
The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for one or more full-time tenured or tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, commencing July 1, 2022, or on a date mutually agreed upon. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The Department seeks an emerging scholar with a commitment to excellence in teaching and research. Exceptional candidates at the rank of Professor may also be considered. Outstanding candidates in any area of Theoretical/Computational Biophysics will be considered, with particular emphasis on candidates who will contribute to the new Faculty of Science initiative in synthetic, structural, and digital biology and who can complement or extend the department’s existing strengths in biophysics including image analysis and modelling, microfluidic / lab-on-chip development, cell migration research, computational modelling of protein energetics and structural dynamics and, nanomagnetism and ultrasonic physics for bioapplications. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. and preferably post-doctoral experience or other distinguishing attributes in Theoretical/Computational Biophysics or a related field. Duties will include undergraduate teaching, graduate teaching and supervision, research, including the establishment of an externally funded research program, and service-related activities. The successful candidate will have a track record of high quality scholarly research leading to peer assessed publications; will either have, or demonstrate the potential to establish, an independent, innovative, scholarly, externally fundable research program; will have demonstrated strength in or strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions; and will exhibit evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

The Department currently has 22 full time tenured and tenure track faculty members and two Instructors, and offers a full range of both undergraduate and graduate programs in Subatomic Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Astronomy and Astrophysics and Biological and Medical Physics. The Faculty of Science has recently obtained a state of the art cryo-electron microscope. The Department has a well-established and equipped research facility, including in-house high-performance computing clusters and additional facilities available through Compute Canada, and is supported by strong research links with other University of Manitoba departments including Electrical and Computer Engineering, Biological Sciences, Medicine, Biosystems Engineering and the Manitoba Institute for Materials.
