Our team is seeking a Lab Support Technologist to join our outstanding, hardworking team. Are you seeking an opportunity to support research efforts related to physical vapor deposition, atomic layer deposition, chemical vapor deposition, and vacuum technology? If so, read on to learn more! On any given day, you may be called on to:
Support staff in safely operating and maintaining thin film deposition systems in support of prototyping and production activities
Prepare substrates, characterize samples utilizing a variety of techniques (optical, electrical, surface roughness, stress, etc.), and troubleshoot systems
Collaborate in a diverse environment with limited guidance
Document work activities
Qualifications We Require
Associates degree or higher in a science, technology, or engineering field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education (high school diploma plus 4 years' experience)
Experience working in a laboratory and maintaining documentation
Experience with PVD, ALD, and/or CVD
Experience with vacuum system technology
Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance
Qualifications We Desire
Proven track record of operating, trouble shooting, maintaining, and repairing ALD/PVD/PE-CVD systems and or vacuum systems
Experience preparing, cleaning, and characterizing thin film samples
Experience designing fixtures and masks with CAD tools (Solidworks, Pro E, or others)
Experience with electro-mechanical trouble shooting and repairs
Experience with LabView
About Our Team
The Coatings and Additive Manufacturing Department provides scientific and engineering expertise in the areas of thin films, laser machining and surface modification, precision engineering, and metal additive manufacturing for the Laboratories. Over 25 elements as well as numerous compounds and alloys can be deposited by sputter deposition and electron beam evaporation. Thin film properties can also be characterized. Precision engineering includes the design and fabrication of miniature and meso-scale devices, electrical discharge machining (EDM), laser machining, laser etching, as well as technical consulting. Metal additive manufacturing capabilities include powder bed, LENS, and wire technologies. Our staff supports a variety of programs and is highly engaged in providing collaborative, innovative materials science and systems-based engineering solution.

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.
Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
