High Energy Density Science Center - Academic Graduate Appointee

The LLNL High Energy Density Science (HEDS) Center, with the Physical and Life Sciences directorate has an opening for a physicist to pursue further education and learning on HEDS or Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF). The Academic Graduate Appointee will learn to develop data analysis tools for ICF experiments performed at the National Ignition Facility. The selected candidate will work on multi-disciplinary teams in an environment that encourages the support of the academic research and education community while focusing on problems of interest to LLNL and DOE programs. This position will be within the Physics Division.

The HEDS center at LLNL is a focal point for connecting experts around the world with the extensive experimental and computational capabilities at LLNL. The center's mission is to strengthen fundamental research collaborations in the field of HEDS between LLNL and the academic community, and to enhance educational opportunities in HED science for students. In this role you will

• Analyze x-ray data and measure electron temperature from ICF experiments performed at the National Ignition Facility.
• Develop analytical tools to reconstruct three-dimensional hot spot shapes of ICF implosions.
• Participate in research team, including supporting work and research papers.
• Contribute to the fulfillment of technical projects and organizational objectives functioning as an effective team member on multi-disciplinary teams.
• Engage other scientists frequently to share relevant knowledge, opinions, and recommendations, working to fulfill deliverables as a team.
• Interact with LLNL HEDS center to enhance education HEDS science by attending seminars, lectures and online classes.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
