Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics Villanova University
Posting Number: 2020728F Position Title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics Position Type: Faculty Location: Villanova, PA Recruitment Type: Internal/External Applicants Work Schedule: full-time/12-months Department: 186-Physics
Position Summary: The Department of Physics at Villanova University invites applications for a postdoctoral position in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics in the 2D Materials Laboratory of Prof. Scott Dietrich. This is a grant-funded position and is subject to continuing based on the availability of funding. The successful candidate will investigate highly interacting electronic states in van der Waals materials at low temperatures and high magnetic fields. This project involves nanoscale device fabrication using cleanroom facilities, electrical transport measurements, and microwave spectroscopy measurements. It also contains strong ties to collaborating institutions, requiring the postdoctoral researcher to communicate closely with partnering teams.
The Villanova Physics Department is dedicated to excellence in teaching and research, and we recognize the importance of involving our undergraduates in cutting-edge research. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute in such an atmosphere. Teaching opportunities are available for interested candidates. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire, with a possibility of continuing for an additional two years.

The University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer and seeks candidates who understand, respect and can contribute to the University’s mission and values.
Duties and Responsibilities: The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for nanofabricating samples for characterization, working with collaborators (remotely and in-person) on microwave experiments.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Physics or related field, strong research experience in 2D electronic systems, some nanofabrication experience.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas: • Mechanical assembly van der Waals heterostructures • Nanofabrication • Magnetoresistance measurements • Microwave design and measurements • Dilution fridge operation • Previous usage of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, FL
Special Message to Applicants: Applications must be submitted to jobs.villanova.edu and must include a cover letter, CV with publication list, 3-page statement of the applicants research interests, and the names and contact information for three references who will be contacted via email to submit confidential letters of recommendation when the application is submitted.
