ASSISTANT PROFESSOR of PHYSICS/ EXPERIMENTAL APPLIED PHYSICIST – The Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a tenure-track position in physics in the area of experimental applied physics starting Fall 2021. Responsibilities include: teaching a full range of classes (from introductory to graduate level) in physics, especially courses in engineering mechanics and dynamics, electronics, and fluids; performing departmental service; and conducting scholarly activity. Minimum degree: Doctorate. Preferred qualifications: Ph.D. in physics or applied physics; a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program will be looked upon favorably. Candidates must have a plan for enhancing engineering-based physics courses, a strong commitment to undergraduate education and research, and a strategy for seeking external funding and research support. The Department currently has research facilities in thin films and surface science, optics, and plasma physics. Teaching commitment is 12 credit hours per semester; opportunities exist for research release time. See www.emich.edu/physicsastronomy for more information.
