Medical Physics: Radiation Oncology, Physics: Computational
The Department of Radiation Oncology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN invites applications for up to two, 2-year postdoctoral research positions in the Division of Medical Physics. Individuals with a strong interest in the application of physics to medicine, and prior experience with Monte Carlo techniques are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates will be taking leading roles in our ongoing development of highly efficient GPU-based Monte Carlo simulations of radiation transport in matter, with a focus on cutting-edge proton and light ion therapy applications.
Requirements Applicants should have a doctoral degree in physics and must have strong problem-solving and computer programming skills. Experience with Monte Carlo simulations in the context of radiation transport is strongly desired. Excellent numerical, written and verbal skills and evidence of research scholarship are required.
Facilities and Environment The Medical Physics Division currently has a diverse staff of 17 Ph.D. faculty, 29 clinical medical physicists, 9 residents, 2 postdoctoral fellows, 3 medical physicist assistants, engineers and IT support. The radiation oncology department at Mayo Rochester is a large practice supporting all aspects of radiation therapy including proton therapy. Computational resources include a research cluster, a large GPU cluster for Monte Carlo-based clinical applications and a strong institutional infrastructure. The Division runs a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program, through which the successful candidates can obtain the didactic requirements for entry into a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics residency.
