Biological Sciences, Earth and Environmental Sciences: Environmental Science
Gain hands-on experience doing marine science research on the beautiful waters of the Salish Sea.
The Shannon Point Marine Center is accepting applications for the 2020 NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. Student participants work one-on-one with faculty mentors studying themes related to productivity and nutrient cycling in local watershed systems; ocean acidification; marine microbial ecology; marine chemical ecology; physiology of symbiosis; ecology and physiology of seaweeds; larval development, physiology, ecology; and environmental toxicology. Participant support includes a $5400 stipend, a $675 food allowance, a travel allowance up to $650, and housing at the marine center for the nine-week session (June 16 - August 14). Pending results of a grant proposal, we will accept 8 students into the 2020 program.
Application information and program details are available at www.wwu.edu/spmc/reu.shtml and in the attached program flyer. Previous research experiences is not necessary; individual without previous research opportunities are encouraged to apply. The application deadline is February 13, 2020.
