Wentworth Institute of Technology was founded in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston in 1904. We offer 22 bachelor’s degree programs in areas such as engineering, management, technical design, and computer science. Additionally, Wentworth places a strong emphasis on career placement and as such includes co-op experiences as part of the curriculum.
The Department of Sciences represents an interdisciplinary collaboration between faculty in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Beginning in fall of 2019, we are launching our new major; the Bachelor of Science in Applied Sciences. This major highlights the connections between our fields and aims to provide students will a well-rounded foundation in the physical and life sciences. We seek a colleague eager to contribute to the growth and success of this program.
We invite qualified candidates to apply for a full-time position of Assistant or Associate Professor (depending upon the qualifications and experience of the candidate) with a start date of Fall 2020. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in experimental physics; however, applicants with expertise in other areas of physics will also be considered.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an enthusiasm for and commitment to education as well as the ability to instruct physics courses at the undergraduate level. These include introductory algebra and calculus-based courses, rotating electives, and selected upper level courses. While our primary mission is teaching, the candidate is also expected to engage in scholarly work and service to the institute. As such we seek a candidate who can demonstrate the ability to incorporate undergraduates into their scholarly activities, particularly with the limited equipment and funds typical of small institutions.
The desirable candidate will showcase their capacity to augment our major through the development of courses and projects, academic leadership, and a readiness to connect classroom ideals to desirable skills in the technical workplace. Preference will be given to candidates who bring their background in hands-on experimentation to the development of new courses and experiences.
Wentworth seeks to increase the diverse perspectives of its faculty and strongly encourages applications from members of underrepresented groups in STEM.
Review of applications will begin October 11, 2019.
