Saint Mary’s College, in Notre Dame, Indiana, invites applications for a Post Doctoral research position beginning fall of 2019. This position is supported by an NSF-sponsored grant (Award Number: 1916850) for the development of image and video analysis tools for biologists. This project involves an interdisciplinary collaboration between biology, computer science, and physics. This is a 36-month, full-time position with benefits.
We will accept applications from a variety of scientific or engineering backgrounds. Successful applicants should have solid programming skills and experience using MATLAB, experience with image and video analysis, and knowledge of image processing techniques are all preferred. The Post-doctoral researcher will develop and refine software based on feedback from beta testers, so applicants should also have strong interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication. Conference travel support will be provided. Job duties include:
Develop new algorithms for image and video analysis and improve existing video analysis algorithms
Coordinate with students and collaborating researchers on the software refinement and instructions
Design and implement changes to user interfaces
Disseminate the software (online)
Organize documentation, promote the software, and discuss research findings at conference
PhD in biology, physics, engineering, computer science, or related field
Experience with software development (in e.g. MATLAB, Python, or C)
Strong oral and written communication skills
Prefer Qualifications include experience with image and video analysis; familiarity with GitHub, SourceForge, Cyverse Docker, and/or BisQue; and familiarity with determining kinematic properties of moving objects.
