Texas A&M University at Qatar, a branch campus of Texas A&M University, invites applications for the position of Chair of the Science Program. The successful candidate must relocate to Qatar. It is anticipated that the position will be filled by the beginning of the Spring 2020 semester or as soon thereafter as possible. This position is for a duration of 3 to 5 years and is renewable upon a positive recommendation by the program faculty members and concurrence by the Dean.

Texas A&M at Qatar offers undergraduate degree programs in chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and petroleum engineering. These programs attract some of the best high school graduates in the region, resulting in an annual freshman enrollment of approximately 130-140 undergraduate students and a total college enrollment of about 550. All undergraduate programs are ABET accredited. In addition to the undergraduate programs, Texas A&M at Qatar offers an M.Sc./M.Eng. program in chemical engineering.

About the Science Program
The Science Program has 17 faculty members who have a strong commitment to teaching, research and service, and who are actively engaged in externally funded research. The program benefits from state-of-the-art facilities and instrumentation in support of its key educational and research missions. The Science Program provides a thorough grounding in the fields of chemistry, math and physics to supplement the engineering programs and offers academic minors. The Position of Program Chair
Responsibilities of the Program Chair include:
providing overall leadership and direction;
managing the use of resources;
ensuring that Texas A&M at Qatar course offerings are materially identical with respect to curriculum and quality compared to the corresponding disciplines at Texas A&M University;
promoting and identifying opportunities for the development of the Program by continuing and strengthening strategic relationships with faculty across campus, local industry, and the regional community; and
pursuing innovations in education, research and service.
As a faculty member of the Science Program, the Chair is expected to teach with an average teaching load of one course (typically 3 credit-hour course) per semester and to maintain an active externally funded research program.
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in mathematics, physics, chemistry or a closely related field and have an accomplished research and teaching record. They should also possess excellent communication skills with a proven record of effective leadership in identifying, prioritizing and addressing organizational challenges in an academic or related setting. Additional essential qualifications will include successful administrative experience, ability to effectively engage a broad range of stakeholders, and a strong commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion. The successful candidate is expected to be a strong advocate for the program and to lead it in the development and implementation of a compelling vision for education, research and service.
