Carleton College’s Department of Physics and Astronomy invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, to start September 1, 2020. We seek someone with a Ph.D. and with a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts environment. A successful candidate will demonstrate the potential to be an excellent teacher who can contribute imaginatively to our experimental physics curriculum and create and maintain a program of active scholarship in any area of experimental physics with a substantial on-campus component involving undergraduates. Start-up funds will be provided. Our new interdisciplinary science building includes new instructional and research spaces for physics and a shared ‘maker space’. These spaces provide new opportunities to collaborate with students and faculty across the sciences. Moreover, our department is interested in expanding computational instruction across our curriculum and in continuing our contributions to academic civic engagement projects locally and globally. Research or teaching interests that intersect with a subset of these new departmental spaces and interests would be welcome.
