Bard High School Early College - Queens, a partnership of Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in our Science Department beginning fall 2019. BHSEC Queens seeks teachers and scholars deeply committed to their field and creative in engaging students at both the college and high school levels with its delights and challenges. BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College as well as a high school diploma. The academic program emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment.
BHSEC Queens seeks candidates to teach physics at the college and high school levels. In addition to a strong interest in teaching courses in the typical sequence from high school physics through the introductory college physics courses, priority will be given to candidates with interest and experience teaching college physics electives outside of that sequence. Positive consideration will also be given toward candidates with an interest in teaching in our growing Computer Science program. All BHSEC Queens faculty also participate actively in the life of the school, advising students, serving on committees, or sponsoring extracurricular activities.
Queens is a particularly diverse borough with families hailing from around the world, and BHSEC Queens is a particularly diverse school within the borough. While the vast majority of our students have English as their first language, more than 20 different languages are listed as the home languages for the parents of our students.
Successful applicants will be innovative teachers, skilled in leading interactive classes and engaging students from widely diverse backgrounds. The ideal applicant will have college teaching experience, will hold the Ph.D., and will be a skilled educator with a demonstrated interest in engaging and challenging younger students.
To apply, submit a letter of interest (including research interests), curriculum vitae, a brief ( ~250 word) teaching statement, and 3 contact references through Interfolio.com at: https://apply.interfolio.com/62419
