DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics. More than 2.400 employees work at our two locations Hamburg and Zeuthen in science, technology and administration. DESY looks back on a long tradition in synchrotron radiation experiments in a wide range of applications and has developed into one of the leading centres in this field worldwide. For high end synchrotron radiation applications, the 3rd generation source PETRA III is available since 2009 as one of the most brilliant hard X-ray sources worldwide. The "soft X-ray beamline P04" at PETRA III is dedicated to the use of intense soft X-ray beams for the investigation of fundamental excitations of gases and solids as well as advanced microscopy techniques. Solid State Spectroscopy is performed in collaboration with leading academic research groups using the photoemission station "ASPHERE-III" as well as various instruments for resonant inelastic X-ray spectroscopy (RIXS).
Development of your own independent research program and participation in collaborative projects with external groups at beamline P04
Technical and scientific user support of experiments in the fields of synchrotron radiation photoelectron spectroscopy, inelastic X-ray scattering, and related X-ray spectroscopic techniques
Ph.D. in physics or equivalent related disciplines
Experience with solid state spectroscopy methods using synchrotron radiation
Experimental skills and a keen interest in instrumentation development
The position is limited to 2 years. Salary and benefits are commensurate with those of public service organizations in Germany. Classification is based upon qualifications and assigned duties. Handicapped persons will be given preference to other equally qualified applicants. DESY operates flexible work schemes. DESY is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer and encourages applications from women. Vacant positions at DESY are in general open to part-time work. During each application procedure DESY will assess whether the post can be filled with part-time employees.
