The Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany’s leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties. The RUB is a vital institution in the Ruhr area, which has been selected as European Capital of Culture for the year 2010.
PROFESSOR (TENURE) FOR EXPERIMENTAL SOLID STATE PHYSICS (SALARY SCALE W3)
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum, invites applications for the position of a Professor (tenure) for Experimental Solid State Physics (Salary Scale W3) to start as soon as possible.
The candidate is expected to establish a sustainable research program in experimental solid state physics. We are seeking a dynamic individual who will carry out vigorous, internationally recognized research in the field of Quantum materials. The research field should include synthesis and characterization of material systems with application potential in the field of energy materials, sensors or novel electronics.
The Department of Physics and Astronomy is committed to promoting interdisciplinary and cutting-edge research and working to meet societal challenges. The new professor is expected to contribute proactively to both undergraduate and graduate level teaching, establish an independent research profile while advising doctoral students and mentoring scientific staff and add to the diversity of the academic community.
The candidate is expected to work closely with solid state theory and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation (ICAMS). Active participation in the Materials Research Department is required. The cooperation with the RESOLV excellence cluster in the field of growth and kinetics on surfaces and the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1316 is desired. Ruhr-Universität Bochum offers excellent cooperation possibilities within the Department of Physics and Astronomy (semiconductor epitaxy, laser spectroscopy, theory) and research facilities of the university such as ICAMS and the Center for Interface-Dominated High Performance Materials with the state-of-the-art research facilities (http://zgh.rub.de/).
Successful candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent degree in Physics, and possess relevant qualifications in terms of university teaching experience. Positive evaluation as a junior professor or equivalent academic achievement (e.g. Habilitation) or significant post-doctoral research contributions and teaching experience are required as well as the willingness to participate in the self-governing bodies of the RUB.
