We are seeking exceptional candidates in an R&D, Laboratory Support Technologist role to join a team pursuing world leading research in silicon nanoelectronics for quantum information sciences. We are seeking candidates that have distinguished themselves academically and have shown the ability to work and learn independently. Willingness to perform research in a team environment, including reliance on others for critical-path elements, is also essential.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Assist with the design of experiments on nanofabricated electronics devices (e.g., transistor-like devices);
Design, procure equipment, and develop laboratory test apparatuses (e.g., circuits and cryogenic systems) for testing nanoelectronics;
Take data and perform analyses on nanoelectronic devices;
Perform light electrical or mechanical fabrication tasks for testing nanoelectronics;
Assist with or perform specific processing steps in the fabrication of nanoelectronic devices;
Perform laboratory maintenance functions and general operations; and
Support the development of safe laboratory functions including assessing risks and developing engineered controls.
Bachelor's degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering or related STEM field.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level security clearance.
Ideally, your background would also include:
Experience with one of the following: silicon nanofabrication, nanostructure metrology, electrical characterization of nanostructures, low-noise high-bandwidth electronics setups including programming for data collection, cryogenics (T< 1 K), computer aided design, and cryogenic circuitry;
Demonstrated quality of self-motivation;
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), interpersonal/collaboration skills, and the ability to interact well with a diverse team of researchers;
Willingness to be flexible in job assignments;
Demonstrated ability to work creatively on a complex research problem.
The Advanced Silicon Quantum Devices Department of the Advanced Microsystems Group conducts cutting edge research on silicon-MOS-based devices for quantum information sciences applications. Our fundamental expertise lies in silicon (Si) quantum dot and donor-based qubits. Our core capabilities are Si qubit development and measurement, quantum coherent control, cryogenic characterization and measurement, and quantum information science and technology. We leverage our strong relationships within the Sandia's Microsystems Engineering Sciences and Applications (MESA) foundry facility, the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), and other internal and external organizations to develop advanced solid-state quantum device technologies.
