: The Geophysics Department is seeking an undergraduate summer intern to perform geophysics research and development activities with department R&D staff members\. On any given day, you may be called on to perform projects in the following areas: + Computational geophysics and collection/analysis of field\-collected geophysical data+ Active source subsurface characterization+ Computational electromagnetic geophysics+ Seismic and acoustic inversion+ Borehole seismic measurements and analysis for geothermal research and development+ High\-precision seismic and infrasound sensor and system characterization Required: You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements: + Currently attending and enrolled full time \(or scheduled to graduate in the spring\) in an accredited undergraduate program+ Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3\.0/4\.0+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer+ U\.S\. citizenship Note: If you have not yet started your undergraduate program, please apply to a high school intern position\. Desired: + Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Geophysics, Geology, Earth Science, Physics, or a related field+ Familiarity with Linux/UNIX operating systems, Python, and/or MATLAB+ Previous coursework or hands\-on experience with signal processing and time series analysis+ Field experience in geophysical deployments and data collection+ Experience with analysis of seismic and/or infrasound time series data Department Description: The Geophysics Department at Sandia National Laboratories performs geophysics research and development in support of Sandia's mission as a national security laboratory\. We apply our expertise to address national\-level challenges in Sandia mission area programs, including nuclear explosion monitoring, energy exploration and resource characterization in support of national energy security, nuclear nonproliferation, defense, homeland security, and nuclear weapons\. The department has a broad range of expertise in field seismology and modeling, subsurface characterization, seismic, electromagnetic, atmospheric acoustic and infrasound modeling, evaluation of seismic and infrasound sensors and systems, and the processing, analysis, and interpretation of all types of geophysical data\. The department's technical work spans the spectrum from theoretical to applied and includes strong modeling, lab, field data collection, and analysis capabilities\. The department serves as Sandia's resource for geophysics expertise\. Security Clearance: This position does not currently require a Department of Energy \(DOE\) security clearance\. Sandia will conduct a pre\-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications\.
