Postdoc - Surface and Superconducting Characterization
Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory
Selected candidate will conduct research under direction of and in consultation with more experienced scientists. Areas of research may be in any of the scientific or technology development activities within the Division/Center of assignment/appointment. Appointees do not have specific line or organizational responsibilities. They are expected to complete scientific paper(s)/publication(s) based on their research. SRF Program is looking for a Postdoc - Surface and Superconducting Characterization in the area of surface and superconducting material characterization to participate in the various directions of the superconducting RF cavity research with the primary goal of understanding/tailoring the near-surface nanostructure of SRF cavities for advancing further achievable quality factors and surface fields for accelerators (e.g. PIP-II, ILC etc.) and non-accelerator applications (e.g. quantum computing, dark sector searches etc.). The successful applicant will be primarily involved in the Materials Science Lab-based research utilizing the in-house state-of-the-art equipment (SEM/EDX/EBSD, cryo-AFM, cryo-MFM, Quantum Design PPMS with AC/DC magnetometry, resistivity, and thermal options, IONTOF TOF-SIMS), as well as will be utilizing the complimentary characterization facilities located at the nearby universities, e.g. Northwestern, UIUC etc. (FIB, TEM, XPS, AES etc.). Respects, understands and values individual differences that embody the principles of diversity. Required qualifications:
