The Physics Department at the University of Richmond invites applications for a continuing, full-time, teaching-intensive, non-tenure-track faculty position with the title of Laboratory Director starting July 1, 2019. The Director will teach physics courses, primarily at the introductory level, and lead in the development of new lab experiences for students. The successful candidate will have experience in undergraduate education and an advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in physics or a closely related field.
The Director’s teaching duties will consist of 12 contact hours per week during the academic year, typically in the form of two sections of introductory physics each semester. These courses are taught in an active-learning workshop style and meet for 6 hours/week. Summer duties will involve some or all of the following: developing new labs, updating lab manuals, teaching summer courses, and supervising student projects. Other responsibilities include academic advising and working with the Lab Manager, who is responsible for the purchase, maintenance, and setup of lab equipment.
We seek a successful and dedicated teacher, who will provide students with rigorous and engaging courses that lead them to develop their knowledge of the subject matter and the analytical, technical, and reasoning skills they need for success at higher levels. He or she will welcome and encourage students of diverse backgrounds, particularly those belonging to traditionally underrepresented groups.
