The Exploratory Real Time Systems department is seeking Electronic or Computer Engineering talent for our embedded signal/image processing team. You will join a dynamic team in researching, and developing solutions to, some of this country's toughest challenges.
On any given day you may be called on to:
Apply advanced signal/image processing techniques to various types of data (seismic, acoustic, electromagnetic, optical, etc) to increase SNR and data quality to improve pattern recognition (detection and classification) performance.
Work with a team to develop next generation, power-efficient algorithms for signal detection and target identification used in autonomous/unattended sensor systems/network.
Develop real-time implementations for embedded systems and work with others to optimize system performance through software enhancements and hardware selection.
Perform field testing and analyze field test data to evaluate system performance and develop data sets for additional algorithm and system improvements.
Develop concepts for next generation systems to address complex real-world application challenges.
You will need to conduct moderate travel for meetings and field tests.
The Exploratory Real-Time Systems department develops and fields autonomous sensing systems for defense and other government customers that are based on advanced signal processing, communications and embedded computing techniques. We perform engineering, systems development and field implementations for a variety of national security applications, integrating expertise from across the Laboratories to develop systems that provide situational awareness, target characterization, and virtual presence missions. A major part of this work is the development and implementation of advanced detection, classification and localization algorithms for use in distributed arrays of collaborating, networked sensors.

You will have an undergraduate degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related science/engineering field, plus four years related experience; OR a bachelor’s and advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in one of the above-mentioned areas.
You bring a demonstrated ability to implement signal/image processing functions and perform analysis in MatLab, Python, C or other relevant environment by way of education or experience.
You can obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance with SCI, which may require a polygraph examination.
Your background should also include:
Proficiency in programming in modern programming languages such as Python, C++ or C#.
Experience in computer systems design and software development for real-time and embedded processing systems, distributed processing systems, or real-time client server implementations.
Experience in machine vision or AI.
Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Active DOE/DOD security clearance.
Position requires a SCI security clearance.
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) granted Q-level security clearance and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test.
Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug testing, and a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship and SCI clearance, which may require a polygraph test.
