The Faculty of Physics offers its own bachelor’s program in Medical Physics and a master’s program in joint cooperation with Ruhr University Bochum.
The appointee should support and strengthen the Medical Physics program through complementary function, for example, modeling and simulation of radiation therapies. Through excellent scientific achievements, the sought-after candidate is internationally established and possesses the potential to develop an independent research profile at a high international level. The appointee is expected to be willing to contribute to research projects of the Physics Department and develop collaborative relationships with external institutions, e.g. The West German Proton Therapy Centre Essen, as well as to apply for third-party funding. Experience therein is an asset. An adequate contribution to the general teaching duties of the Faculty of Physics is expected. The successful candidate should possess social and leadership skills and be willing to be involved in academic self-governance.
The recruitment requirements are based on § 36 and § 37 HG NRW (law governing universities in NRW). The appointment is initially for three years as a temporary civil servant. In the course of the third year, this status will be reviewed and may be extended for a further three years depending on performance. At the end of this six-year assistant professorship, the “Tenure-Track” will lead to continued employment as a tenured W3 university professor, provided that the necessary aptitude, competence and academic performance have been demonstrated and that the legal requirements pertaining to § 38 HG NRW are met.
