The Department of Physics, Astronomy & Materials Science at Missouri State University (MSU), located in Springfield, MO, seeks applications for a tenure-track position in physics/materials science at the Assistant Professor level. The position requires a Ph.D. in physics, materials science or a closely related field. We seek an individual with a strong commitment to teaching and research involving both undergraduate and graduate students. The candidate is expected to develop and maintain a solid research effort in the department that is funded through external grants. The successful candidate is expected to have expertise in areas compatible with the research interests of the department and to be able to develop collaborative activities with the MSU Chemistry department. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching physics and materials science courses in the department at the undergraduate and graduate level.
The department has research strengths in modeling, fabrication, and characterization of nanostructured, bulk, and thin film materials for energy, biomedical, magnetic device, and other applications. The department is well equipped for optical, magnetic, x-ray, electron microscopy and other characterization. Additional resources include the Jordan Valley Innovation Center which partners with academic and corporate affiliates to do cutting-edge research and development in the areas of materials science and microbiology.
