: We are seeking a postdoctoral associate to join our team working on understanding biological lignin degradation and conversion into valuable bioproducts\. The project team is working with scientists at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to study enzymes involved in modification of lignin, include enzymes involved in depolymerizing lignin to smaller fragments and enzymes involved in metabolizing lignin derived compounds\. This work may also include studies of the structure of lignin modifying enzymes using X\-ray crystallography\. The postdoctoral researcher in this position is expected to have a strong background in molecular biology, biochemistry, enzymology and structural biology, particularly as they apply to studying lignin modifying enzymes\. The researcher will also collaborate closely with scientists at both SNL and at NREL, so the abilities to work in teams and communicate effectively are critical\. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Expression of lignin modifying enzymes in bacterial and fungal expression systems;+ Functional characterization of lignin modifying enzymes;+ Develop robust analytical methods for monitoring lignin bond cleavage or modification\. Depending on the candidate's background and interests work may also include: + Structural biology \(X\-ray crystallography, NMR\);+ Computational biology and/or bioinformatics\. Required: + PhD in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Chemistry or other relevant field;+ Extensive experience in protein expression, purification, biophysical characterization and enzymology;+ Demonstrated track record of publishing in peer\-reviewed scientific literature; Desired: + Strong interpersonal and communication skills;+ Ability to work with multi\-disciplinary teams;+ Previous research experience with lignin depolymerizing and modifying enzymes;+ Previous research experience in the field of lignin depolymerization and development of assays methods for detecting lignolysis products;+ Experience engineering enzymes for improved stability and performance;+ Experience with high\-throughput enzyme assay development and enzyme mixture optimization;+ Experience in X\-ray crystallography and/or NMR\.
