The Department of Physics at John Carroll University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics starting the Fall of 2018, with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The Department offers multi-track Physics and Engineering Physics Bachelors programs. The department currently includes 4 full-time tenure-track faculty, and graduates approximately 8-10 students per year. All department majors are required to undertake a major research or design project under the guidance of a faculty member. Primary teaching duties of the successful candidate will include introductory and advanced physics courses, as well as laboratory courses. Additional information, including department research areas, can be obtained at http://sites.jcu.edu/physics. Questions about the department or job opening can be directed to Dr. Jeff Dyck, Physics Department Chair, at email@example.com.
A Ph.D. in physics, engineering, or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment, and some teaching experience is desirable. The area of specialization is open. Successful candidates will have a commitment to undergraduate education in a liberal arts environment and be familiar with pedagogical practices informed by physics education research, including active learning approaches. An ability to teach courses in our Engineering Physics program and/or a demonstrated interest in mentoring advanced students in research capstone projects will be an advantage.
Applications must be submitted online at http://sites.jcu.edu/hr/pages/employment/. Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, CV, a statement of teaching experience and interests, a statement of research interests including how undergraduates could be involved, contact information for at least three references (at least one of which can comment on your promise as a teacher), and unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
Review of applications will begin on February 12, 2018, and will continue until the position is filled.
