The Department of Physics at Northern Illinois University (NIU) seeks candidates for the position of Assistant Professor in the area of Experimental Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science. Current research areas in the department include nanoscience, topological materials, complex oxides, biophysics and soft matter, magnetism and superconductivity, materials synthesis and processing, and computational materials science. Applicants in other areas of Experimental Condensed Matter and Materials Science will also be given full consideration. NIU Physics Department has strong connections to the Materials Science Division in nearby Argonne National Laboratory, and faculty also take advantage of Argonne’s Center for Nanoscale Materials and the Advanced Photon Source. Candidates for this position must have an earned doctorate or equivalent in Physics or a closely related field and the capability to teach physics students. Candidates must show potential for establishing an independent research program and securing extramural funding and should have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring students of all backgrounds and to promoting a climate that values diversity and inclusion.
