Engineering and Technology: Materials, Physics: Computational, Physics: Materials
The University of California at Riverside is implementing a major expansion of our faculty (clusterhiring.ucr.edu) and investing in state-of-the-art research facilities to support their work. The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department will complete two cluster hire searches each with one open-rank faculty position.
Phonon and Magnon Engineered Materials and Devices: Experimental areas of interest are (1) nanoscale and two-dimensional devices with engineered phonon, magnon and electronic properties; (2) thermoelectric devices; (3) spin waves and spintronic devices; (4) advanced material synthesis and nanofabrication; (5) phonon thermal transport in nanostructures and low-dimensional materials.
Computational Materials: Areas of interest are (1) topological phenomena, spintronics, and magnonics; (2) electronic excited-state behavior; (3) materials with strongly correlated electrons; (4) high-throughput materials modeling and materials informatics. Demonstrated collaborations with experimental groups preferred. Exceptional experimentalists working in areas (1) or (3) will also be considered.
All candidates are expected to collaborate with the research centers on campus focused on phonons and spins in nanoscale systems, and experimentalists are expected to make use of nanofabrication cleanroom facilities.
Candidates must have published research of the highest quality and demonstrate exceptional promise for, or a proven record of, high quality research and teaching, securing external funding, collaborating across disciplines, and working successfully to benefit a diverse student body. Details and application materials can be found at http://www.engr.ucr.edu/about/employment.html. Full consideration will be given to applications received by December 15, 2017. Applications will continue to be accepted until the positions are filled.
Advancement through the faculty ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit- based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input. UCR is a world- class research university with an exceptionally diverse undergraduate student body. Its mission is explicitly linked to providing routes to educational success for underrepresented and first-generation college students. A commitment to this mission is a preferred qualification. The University of California, Riverside is one of 10 universities within the prestigious University of California system. Widely recognized as one of the most ethnically diverse research universities in the nation, UCR currently hosts about 22,000 students, with 900 instructional faculty. UCR is implementing plans for an aggressive expansion of the faculty, bringing an additional 300 faculty membe...rs onboard. The campus is in the midst of a tremendous growth spurt with new and remodeled facilities coming on-line on a regular basis. UCR is located approximately 50 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, and it is within easy driving distance of dozens of major cultural and recreational sites, as well as desert, mountain and coastal destinations.
