The Physics Department at Washington & Jefferson College (W&J) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Physics (full-time, tenure-track) to begin in July 2018. All qualified candidates who can foster a program of meaningful undergraduate physics or interdisciplinary research will be considered. Candidates should demonstrate a dedication to excellence in teaching and a desire to contribute to an inclusive liberal-arts experience for a diverse student body. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses across the undergraduate physics curriculum, including the department’s substantial laboratory course offerings, and contribute to laboratory courses aimed at non-science students. Though not required, the curriculum at W&J also offers opportunities to participate in interdisciplinary programs such as biological physics, neuroscience, computational science, and the First-Year Seminar. Start-up funding and dedicated laboratory space will be available. Applicants should have a PhD in physics (or a closely related field), though outstanding ABD candidates (with planned completion) may be considered.

In the cover letter, candidates should explicitly address experience in or plans for undergraduate research. Candidates should arrange for three letters of recommendation, which may be solicited at a later stage in the search. Any inquiries should be directed to Dr. Michael McCracken at email@example.com.
