Robert L. Gluckstern Distinguished Professorship in Physics University of Massachusetts Amherst
The Department of Physics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for the endowed Robert L. Gluckstern Distinguished Professorship in Physics to commence as early as September 2018. This chair position will be awarded to an individual with an outstanding, internationally-recognized research program. The selected appointee will play a key role in contributing strategic leadership to the scientific directions of the Physics Department, and be an active faculty member with a vibrant, externally-funded research group. The successful candidate for the Gluckstern Professorship will be chosen from a pool of external tenured faculty candidates at the associate or full professor level. The Physics Department is in an exciting phase of expansion and dedicated to enhancing strengths synergistically by hiring new faculty. Currently, the Department has a vibrant and collaborative group of faculty offering a breadth of cutting-edge experimental and theoretical research in condensed matter physics, biophysics, particle and nuclear physics, as well as cross-cutting collaborations and centers in fundamental interactions, autonomous materials, nanotechnology, computational physics and many-body quantum systems. The duration of the Gluckstern Professorship is seven years, after which the holder of the chair will continue as a valued regular member of the faculty, and the Chair passes to a new appointee. The candidate must have a PhD (or equivalent) in Physics or a related discipline and be able to teach physics at any level.
