Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) together with the Ragon Institute of MGH, MIT and Harvard are seeking outstanding scientists for tenured or tenure-track faculty positions with a start date of July 1, 2018 or on a mutually agreeable date thereafter. The Ragon Institute was officially established in February 2009 as a joint institute involving faculty from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), MIT and Harvard with a dual mission: to contribute to the accelerated discovery of an HIV/AIDS vaccine and to establish itself as a world leader in the collaborative study of immunology.
Candidates should demonstrate a track record of exceptional achievement in basic or translational research and a potential to develop an outstanding independent research program that supports the Institute’s ultimate goal of harnessing the immune system to prevent and cure human diseases. In particular, we are looking for innovative scientists with unique virology or immunology expertise as well as creative individuals who bring novel complementary approaches from other disciplines, including engineering, physical sciences, computation and structural biology, which can synergize with ongoing basic and translational research efforts at the Ragon Institute. Candidates whose interests intersect or complement vaccine design and development are strongly encouraged to apply. Expertise in the HIV field is not required.
The successful candidate will hold a primary tenured or tenure-track appointment within an appropriate department at MIT, and will be physically based at the Ragon Institute. Candidates must have an M.D., Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree by the start of employment. The search is for a candidate to be hired at the assistant professor level; however under special circumstances, a senior faculty appointment is possible. The Institute has its own recently renovated building located at the heart of MIT. The successful candidate will be provided a generous start-up package to complement outstanding laboratory and office space, as well as access to state of the art core facilities including advanced flow cytometry, microscopy, and an extensive clinical specimen repository. The successful candidate will be expected to build and maintain an internationally recognized extramurally funded research program complemented by substantial support from Institute funds. We particularly seek individuals whose expertise complement existing programs at the Ragon Institute. The candidate should possess the ability to work collaboratively with other scientists and the scholarly qualities required to mentor doctoral students in the graduate programs at MIT. Academic rank will be determined in accordance with the successful candidate’s experience and productivity. Faculty duties include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, research, and supervision of student research.
