The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the Faculty of Science at the University of Waterloo is pleased to advertise a Distinguished Research Chair in Quantum Condensed Matter Physics, co-funded by tech visionary Mike Lazaridis and the University of Waterloo. The Chairholder will be appointed at the rank of Professor with tenure and will eligible for CDN $2M startup funds and research support of CDN $500K per annum for ten years, with opportunities for participation in major new projects supported by the Canadian government. They will have full access to the University’s state of the art facilities for quantum physics and materials science, through the Institute of Quantum Computing (https://uwaterloo.ca/institute-for-quantum-computing). A wide range of other partnership opportunities are available in the region, known as Canada’s “Quantum Valley.”
The successful applicant will be a globally recognised, pre-eminent scientist engaged in transformative scientific research – either experimental or theoretical. An Associate Faculty appointment at the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca) will also be available, bringing access to additional support and resources.
The Chairholder will be expected to supervise graduate students and to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels. The appointment will be expected to commence on or before January 1, 2019. More information about the Faculty of Science can be found from http://www.science.uwaterloo.ca
