The lab of Professor Albert-László Barabási, together with the Network Science Institute at Northeastern University and the Division of Network Medicine at Harvard University, is looking for postdoctoral associates in network and data sciences, network medicine, control theory and nutrition. We are seeking motivated individuals with quantitative experience in data and network science, and interest in applying it towards biological, physical and social systems. The ideal candidate has a physics, computer science, bioinformatics, or mathematics PhD, and previous work experience in networks and/or bioinformatics.
Job responsibilities include: performs basic or applied techniques in two main lines of research, involving systems biology and social networks. We are accepting applicants in either area. Prepares and writes research papers, presentations, grant proposals, etc. Our research on systems biology focuses on the properties of biological networks, with applications to metabolic modeling, flux balance methods, and human diseases. The research on social networks involves the study and modeling of extensive communication datasets. Primary responsibility is ensuring that the research is complete. The appointment generally does not extend beyond two years.
PhD required in physics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related; must be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship; work under the supervision of a senior scholar. Strong analytical background and interest in interdisciplinary research including biophysics, computational biology, statistical mechanics, data mining, statistics and related areas and experience in computational modeling and analysis. Candidates with a strong analytical background and interest in interdisciplinary research will be also given particular attention. Experience with network theory is a plus, but not a requirement.
