The Department of Physics at Boston College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in experimental condensed matter. Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for appointment at a higher rank. All areas of condensed matter will be considered, with particular interest in areas complementary to existing departmental strengths in fundamental and applied areas: quantum materials; energy; bulk, nano and heterostructure synthesis; nanophotonics and spectroscopy; bio-material interfaces; and 2D atomic crystals (visit www.physics.bc.edu for more information). Boston College Physics is projected to hire several new faculty in the coming years, all in condensed matter / materials physics. We particularly seek future faculty members interested in broad collaborations in the integrated and applied sciences. Successful candidates will be expected to develop world-class research programs and contribute significantly to service and educational activities of the department and University, including participation in a new Institute for Integrated Science and Society currently being planned at BC (see www.bc.edu/strategicplan ), and which will involve further expansion of the Physics department faculty.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field, with a proven track record of scientific and professional accomplishment. Candidates will be judged on their research, potential for becoming an excellent teacher, and commitment to interdisciplinary science and education in the service of society, including diversity and equity.
