Regional Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

Purpose:

A person who is formally educated in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, environmental studies or a science-based curriculum. The person is qualified to act as a subject matter expert in Safety and/or Environmental Management.

To implement and manage EHS programs for a business or region of the company. This position does not have direct reports.

Leadership Skill Set:
  • Leads by example, mentoring, and exhibiting behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.
  • May provide formal supervision to individual employees within single functional or operational areas.
  • May plan and monitor appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime.
  • May provide recommendations regarding staff recruitment, selection, promotion, advancement, corrective action, and termination.
  • May prepare and/or deliver performance appraisal for staff.
  • Portrays a passion for safety and the well-being of people.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Implement EHS program and objectives to meet regulatory requirements and EHS needs of the business/region. Examples of reporting may include but are not limited to DMRs, SARA, LOTO, OSHA 300, TRR, etc.
  • Evaluates new and existing programs to assess suitability and the need for changes.
  • Leads incident investigations by identifying system causes, defining appropriate corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurrence. Shares these lessons with the sites during the recurring monthly Lessons Learned meeting - promoting a learning culture.
  • Monitors injury, illness, and incident related performance within the region. Ensures the proper reporting of all injuries/illnesses and environmental incidents in the company EHS System.
  • Monitors performance for trends or other indicators of improving or degrading incident performance and develops and implements strategic solutions that improve the performance.
  • Oversee EHS plans, procedures, training, etc. for multiple sites within a region.
  • Ensure information is current, complete, and effectively implemented.
  • Communicates findings, concerns, and deficiencies to the responsible managers/locations to effect timely and necessary corrections.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of strategic solutions that will support management's efforts to improve and maintain compliance.
  • Advises employees on how to minimize risks and hazards and improve EHS performance
  • Builds a strong relationship with the Enterprise EHS team to align the site direction with the overall company EHS Vision and Strategic Deployment Plan.
  • Fosters participation with the Joint EHS Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental studies or a science field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state and local EHS regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to develop and present materials.
  • OSHA certifications preferred.
  • Leads by example, mentoring, and exhibiting behaviors that are consistent with the company's values.
  • Portrays a passion for EHS and the well-being of people and protecting the environment.

Job Specific Competencies
  • Ability to implement the Enterprise EHS Standards and site EHS programs and objectives at the site.
  • Ability to provide employee training using multiple delivery methods and media.
  • Ability to conduct an incident investigation and system cause analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communication to individuals and groups of diverse sizes.
  • Ability to act appropriately in emergency situations.

Work Conditions
  • Travel to sites, Monday through Friday
  • Emergency call expectations may require rotational responsibilities
  • Travel expectations, 75% between locations
