We are seeking a Field Chemist / Environmental Specialist to join our team. This role involves conducting safety inspections, chemical surveys, hazardous materials inventories, and regulatory research while ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience handling hazardous waste, preparing disposal documentation, and working in laboratory and field environments. This position also presents an opportunity to expand expertise in industrial hygiene and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct safety inspections, chemical inventories, and hazardous materials assessments.
  • Perform hazardous waste segregation, classification, packaging, labeling, profiling, and manifesting in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Coordinate transportation and disposal of hazardous waste with appropriate facilities.
  • Transcribe field data and draft reports for various environmental and safety assessments.
  • Conduct regulatory research related to chemical reagents classification and hazard assessments.
  • Prepare documentation including profiles, manifests, land-ban forms, and daily work reports.
  • Perform hazardous materials business plan (HMBP) inspections and compliance reporting.
  • Support compliance with state regulatory standards, including CERS online reporting and agency follow-ups.
  • Participate in safety meetings and adhere to health and safety protocols.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (current and required).
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Ability to work in high-hazard environments and handle hazardous materials.
  • Excellent time management, teamwork, and multitasking skills.
  • Flexibility to accommodate extended work hours, occasional weekends/holidays, and travel outside of the Bay Area as needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and FileMaker Pro.
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Valid California Class C driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must obtain medical clearance to wear a tight-fitting respirator for fieldwork.
