A paid Physics summer research experience for undergrads (funded by NSF) focused on nonlinear dynamics. Physics, mathematics, computer science, and engineering students from institutions across the country come to UMD for 10 weeks to collaborate with scientists conducting research in the topics listed below. Participants also participate in professional development and community-building/networking activities. TREND = Training and Research Experiences in Nonlinear Dynamics   === What will I get?

  • 10 weeks of mentored research experience in some of the best nonlinear dynamics labs
  • $7,000 stipend
  • Travel funds to UMD and back home
  • Housing at UMD for the summer (with ~9 other TREND students)
  • $750 after the summer to present your research at a conference
  • Summer-long justice in science dialogues
  • Practice and mentoring with oral, visual, written and multimedia communication skills, as well as career development
  • Outreach opportunities
  • Local tours (e.g.: Goddard Space Flight Center, NIST)
