About the Position: Serves as the Environmental Protection Specialist for Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) environmental compliance program,managing the hazardous waste program, hazardous material management program, and above ground storage tank requirements.

Duties
  • Inspect waste generation sites, and identify, collect, process, consolidate, and/or separate hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, universal waste, and special solid waste in preparation for transportation and disposal.
  • Provide site specific hazardous waste training to ANC staff.
  • Require an understanding and practical application of environmental laws, regulations, and practices regarding the full range of hazardous waste treatment and disposal procedures.
  • Provide site specific hazardous materials management training to ANC staff.
  • Responsible for identifying and labeling procedures for hazardous wastes and hazardous materials.
  • Skill in the operation of equipment such as tugs, forklifts, and motor vehicles used to load, transport, and store hazardous wastes.

GS-12: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing a hazardous waste program, hazardous material management program, and above ground storage tank requirements; developing and maintaining a Hazardous Material and Hazardous Waste Management Plan; and identifying, collecting, processing, and/or separating hazardous waste, non-hazardous waste, universal waste, and special solid waste in preparation for transportation and disposal.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

GS-11 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes maintaining environmental compliance; performing a variety of duties involving the management, coordination, monitoring, oversight, or evaluation of routine Hazardous Waste and Hazardous Materials programs; and oversee and monitor contracts. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as:Environmental Management

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

GS 11 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

GS 12 Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Education
