Compensation: $20-$35 pr/hr

The Field Energy Efficiency Auditor/Engineer willbe conducting residential energy performance audits in accordance with Building Performance Institute (BPI) standards and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) program requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building science, energy efficiency, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Energy Audits: Perform comprehensive residential energy performance audits, including blower door tests, combustion safety tests, and infrared thermography, to identify energy-saving opportunities.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Accurately measure and record key data such as insulation levels, air leakage, HVAC system efficiency, and overall home energy usage.
  • Customer Engagement: Provide clear and professional communication with homeowners, explaining audit findings and recommendations for energy efficiency improvements.
  • Report Preparation: Generate detailed audit reports that include findings, recommended energy efficiency measures, and estimated energy savings.
  • Compliance: Ensure all audits comply with BPI standards, NYSERDA program requirements, and any other relevant regulations.
  • Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance processes, including post-audit inspections and verification of energy efficiency improvements.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Energy Efficiency Manager and other team members to ensure audit findings are integrated into broader energy-saving initiatives.
  • Training and Development: Stay current with the latest advancements in energy efficiency technology and best practices through ongoing training and certification.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.
  • Certifications: BPI Building Analyst certification preferred; additional BPI certifications (e.g., Envelope Professional, Infiltration and Duct Leakage) and HERS Rater certification are a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in residential energy auditing, weatherization, or a related field.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of building science principles, energy modeling software, and diagnostic tools used in energy audits.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physical tasks associated with residential energy audits, including accessing attics, basements, and crawl spaces.
  • Travel: Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various residential sites throughout NYC and Long Island.
