Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a team of scientists and technicians in the biochemistry lab.
- Develop and implement research strategies and experimental plans.
- Ensure the lab operates efficiently, adhering to safety protocols and best practices.
- Design and optimize cloning strategies for the expression of recombinant proteins.
- Implement viral vectors to deliver genetic material to targeted cells.
- Oversee protein expression in various systems (e.g., bacterial, yeast, mammalian).
- Lead efforts in protein purification, including chromatography and other purification techniques.
- Analyze and interpret structural data to guide protein engineering and functional studies.
- Collaborate with computational biologists to model and predict protein structures.
- Identify and pursue new research opportunities in molecular and structural biology.
- Stay current with advancements in the field and integrate new technologies into the lab.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences when possible.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines and milestones are met.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including bioinformatics, chemistry, and biophysics.
- Prepare progress reports and communicate results to stakeholders.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior scientists and lab members.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative research environment.
- Evaluate and implement new techniques and methodologies in the lab.
Qualifications
Required:
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent industry experience.
- Proven expertise in protein cloning, expression, purification, and structural analysis.
- Hands-on experience with structural biology techniques such as Small Angle X-ray Scattering, X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, or NMR.
- Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals or patent literature.
- Experience in managing a laboratory, including budgeting, purchasing, and maintaining equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with mentoring and training junior scientists.
Preferred:
- Experience in protein engineering and design.
- Knowledge of computational tools for structural analysis.
- Familiarity with high-throughput screening methods.
- Fluency in Japanese.
