The Department of Physics at Montana State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in experimental Condensed Matter and Quantum Physics. We seek a scientist with a compelling and original research plan for the investigation of new quantum states of matter and/or new quantum materials. A commitment to excellence in teaching physics at an undergraduate and graduate level, and in the mentoring of student research activities is essential. Potential synergy with the NSF-funded MonArk Quantum Foundry, which aims to accelerate the development of layered 2D materials and devices for quantum applications, is viewed as beneficial. The successful candidate will complement current multidisciplinary research efforts at Montana State University. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to establish an internationally recognized research program and obtain extramural funding. The appointment is expected to be at the Assistant Professor level but well-matched applicants at the Associate level will also be considered.
We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with individuals from all backgrounds, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University. Candidates must show promise in teaching as well as in research. A Ph.D. in physics or closely related discipline is required by the start of employment.
