Samford University’s Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites individuals interested in serving in a Christian university environment to apply for the position of Assistant Professor in engineering physics, applied physics, physics, or engineering beginning August 2025. This tenure-track, full-time faculty position is a 9-month appointment with a twenty-four (24) hour teaching load per year.

Qualified candidates will hold a Ph.D. in physics, engineering, or closely related applied field from an accredited college or university by the time of appointment. ABD candidates near completion of their doctoral degree will also be considered, with appointment as Instructor until the terminal degree is completed. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate students, research and scholarship, as well as service to the community, university, or discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in mentoring undergraduate research, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and a dedication to supporting students' academic and personal growth.

Primary responsibilities for the position include: (1) teaching introductory courses in physics and engineering as well as advanced courses in engineering or applied physics, (2) the development and maintenance of an active research program that involves undergraduate students and contributes to the department’s goals of scholarship and service, and (3) serving the students through advising and the department through participation in departmental, college, and university committees.
